This ingredient works by interfering with the pancreas’ ability to produce the enzyme known as alpha-amylase. Alpha-amylase is responsible for breaking down starch or carbs into simple sugars which are burned off or stored as fat in the body. A carb blocker will prevent these carbs from being stored as fat in the body.

Third is a diuretic. When it comes to weight loss another problem is excess water retention. If excess water is eliminated then many pounds can be lost. Some diet pills have herbs which help reduce the amount of water retention. Some of these herbs include cocoa extract, horsetail, dandelion and yarrow.

Fourth are lipotropic components. The body gains weight because it tends to store carbohydrates and sugars as fat when they aren’t used through exercise. Many diet pills have lipotropic ingredients in order to help the body process and get rid of fat in a safe manner. Basically a lipotropic agent will metabolize fat and aid in its redistribution or expulsion. Some examples of these include chitosan, Vitamin C, green tea extract and alpha lipoic acid.

Lastly is increased metabolism. Many know that weight loss can be accelerated by increasing the metabolic rate of the body. Increased metabolism is similar to lipotropic factors in that it will help your body burn off calories from the food that you eat at an accelerated rate rather than having a lower metabolic rate. Diet pills may have ingredients that speed up the metabolic rate of your body. Some examples include green tea extract, alpha lipoic acid and L-Canitine.
